Artemisia Gentileschi. Self Portrait as the Allegory of Painting. 1630s. Royal Collection, Windsor.
Artemisia Gentileschi was a bitching awesome lady with a bit of a talent for painting blood. While there is no blood in this painting, she remains awesome.

Diego Velázquez. Las Meninas (The Maids of Honor) or the Royal Family. 1656/57. Oil on canvas. Museo del Prado, Madrid, Spain.
Diego Velázquez was the court painter for the royal family of Spain when this was painted. If you study art history, eventually you will have to learn about this painting. Good luck. There are about fifteen million competing theories about what the hell is going on here. What you need to know now is that after this was first done, the medal on his chest wasn’t there. After he was granted an honor, he took the painting down and added it in.

Bull-Leaping Fresco, Crete, c. 1500 BCE.
A famous fresco showing a young’un leaping over a bull. It can be done! Don’t listen to crusty old scholars who say this is impossible!
